Last Update: Dec 1, 2008

Important: The new 25 acre park being built by Bellevue Parks at Eastgate (old airport land N of I-90 , W of 148th ) is in the commenting period of design reviews. The second survey is now done and they are starting Survey #3. The 1st alternative “A” has NO ball fields.  “B” has larger fields than “C”. The best option for baseball and soccer is now gone (didn’t make it out of survey #2). Let’s not let this park get built without any additional fields. Bottom line: I know our families supported the Parks Levy because it’s a well known fact that there aren’t enough ball fields for our kids – please visit the website and vote for option “B”!

The East gate neighborhood is well organized and fighting for a dog park only. Apparently, if you do not vote, you will not be represented and this will be a 25 acre nature park with no ball fields. It’s your tax dollars and your community.
Our Request : Please control + click on the link below; go to the middle column entitled : “Eastgate Area Properties Park Master Plan” :
Then scroll down & click “Survey #3”; vote for option “B”

Thank You.

For the 2009 season the determination date for baseball will be April 30, 2009 and for softball December 31, 2008 ("league age" = child's age as of the determination date). For more detailed information you can go to Little League Age Determination

A summary of our programs follows:

 Baseball programs:

T-Ball (Ages 5-6)
All players hit from a tee. All players play in the field and bat each inning. Players are assigned to teams based on their school. Rosters for teams are accepted from prospecitve coaches.
Machine Pitch - Dukes (Ages 6-9)
Three divisions based on grade (Kindergarten-1, 1st grade, 2nd grade) Rosters for teams are accepted from prospective coaches.
Player Pitch
BWLL offers three player pitch leagues for ages 9 - 12: Mickeys (Ages 9-10), Teds (Ages 10-12) and Majors (Ages 11-12). For each of these leagues, evaluations are required and players are drafted to a team.
Junior Baseball (Ages 13-14)
This league uses 80 foot bases and allows leading off and stealing. Juniors play against other teams in District 9.

Softball Programs:
89ers: primarily ages 8-9 (with some experienced 7 year olds and with some 10 year olds who have no previous baseball or softball experience)

For girls ages, 8-9 (based on player's age as of December 31, 2008). Seven and Ten year olds may play in this league with league approval. The league is a coach pitch program for most of the season. Modified player pitch may be introduced later in the season to introduce the basic underhand pitching technique to the players. Pitching is done from a 30-foot distance using a safety "incrediball" softball. Girls are introduced to the fundamentals of softball. The league will attempt to form teams based on player requests and the school they attend. However, not all requests are guaranteed since team sizes need to be balanced. There are no "skill evaluations" at this level of play (except for age 7 girls who want to “play up” in the program). The emphasis is on "sportsmanship", "fun" and "fundamental skill development".

Coast: ages 10,11,12 (Primarily for girls league age 10-12 (based on player's age as of December 31, 2008).

All girls must attend player skill evaluations on January 24th. All players who are at least age 10 will be assigned to a team – the skills assessments are used to balance the teams. Players league age 9 who request to "play up" and who attend the skills assessment will only play at the Coast level with league approval (those age 9 players who don’t get placed on a Coast team will be placed on an 89ers team.) This is primarily a player pitch league with limited coach pitching early in the season. Pitching is done from a 35-foot distance using an 11-inch softball. Bunting and sliding are introduced and permitted at this level. There will be an end of season city-wide tournament. The emphasis is on "sportsmanship", "fun", "knowledge of game", "pitching and position development".

Majors: League age 11-12. (Primarily for girls league age 11 and 12 (based on player's age as of December 31, 2008).

Girls must attend player skill evaluations on January 24th. All players will be assigned to a team - the skills assessments are used to balance the teams. Girls pitch all games. Standard "walk" and "strike out" rules apply. Stealing, bunting and sliding are all practiced at this level. Girls will pitch from 40-foot distance and use an 12- inch softball. Game scores are kept. There will be an end of season tournament. The emphasis is on "sportsmanship", "fun", "knowledge of game", "pitching" and "position development".

Juniors: League age 13-14. (Primarily for girls league age 13 and 14 (based on player's age as of December 31, 2008).

It is likely that Bellevue West will combine with another nearby league to form a Juniors team due to the fact that we probably will not have enough players to from a team on our own. Girls must attend player skill evaluations in early February. Girls pitch all games. Standard "walk" and "strike out" rules apply. Stealing, bunting and sliding are all practiced at this level. Girls will pitch from 40-foot distance and use an 12- inch softball. Game scores are kept. The emphasis is on "sportsmanship", "fun", "knowledge of game", "pitching" and "position development".

BWLL Winter Training Program

It's time to start thinking about the 2009 Bellevue West Little League season! To help get players ready BWLL is proud to announce our 5th annual BWLL Winter Training program at Stod's. Again this year, we will have staff instructors from Stod's and a curriculum that covers many facets of the game including hitting, throwing, fielding and more. What's more, the program is sponsored by BWLL so there's no cost to participate!

The 12 session winter training program runs from December through February (details below). As in past years, no advance sign up is required but you must be a registered BWLL player for the 2009 season to participate. You can join in any of the sessions. However, since there will be a sequence to the program this year, your player will get the most benefit by attending as many sessions as possible.

Players must bring a glove and wear tennis shoes - no cleats. They are recommended to bring a bat, wear baseball attire (hat, pants, and shirt), and bring water. They should show up 15 minutes prior to the start time for warm-ups.

Coaches, Managers and Parent Volunteers

Be sure and check Coaches Corner for valuable coaches clinic information.

Please make sure you review the code of conduct and safety code highlights posted on the safety page. This information is always available via the safety link contained on the navigation bar to the left.

It's all about the kids! PLEASE try to remember that when you don't like the umpire's call or it's not clear which field is number one (unless marked it's the one closest to the school) or number two. We are all volunteers and will absolutely make mistakes. So the next time something goes wrong SMILE, be POSITIVE and look at the kid's faces. They learn good (or bad) sportsmanship from you.

If you plan to coach or have an interest in being a coach or assistant coach please contact Tim Kafer at timk@throwmax.com or call (425) 591-7612 for baseball or Gregg Parsons at gregg@raincentral.net for softball

The phone number for the Bellevue Parks Department Field closure line is (425)452-4860. A fields is not to be used if the Parks Department says it is closed.
